The i-CREATE workshop will be convened by Uisdean Nicholson (Heriot-Watt University), Sean Gulick (University of Texas at Austin) and Christian Koeberl (University of Vienna).

Uisdean Nicholson
Uisdean Nicholson (Heriot-Watt University) is Associate Professor of Geoscience , where he runs the Marine Geoscience and Geohazards research group. He led the team that discovered the Nadir Crater in West Africa, and is the lead proponent on the IODP3 Nadir Crater drilling proposal, which has been provisionally scheduled for drilling. He also led the team that confirmed an impact origin for Silverpit Crater in the North Sea in 2025.

Sean Gulick
Sean Gulick (UT Austin) is Research Professor in Jackson School of Geosciences, and a leading researcher in marine geophysics and impact cratering processes. His work focuses on understanding how large impacts and tectonic events shape Earth’s evolution, most notably through his leadership in the Chicxulub impact crater drilling project. At UT Austin’s Institute for Geophysics, he integrates seismic imaging, drilling, and field studies to explore the connections between planetary impacts, climate, and life.

Christian Koeberl
Christian Koeberl (University of Vienna) is a Professor of Planetary Geosciences and former Director General of the Natural History Museum Vienna. His research focuses on impact cratering processes, geochemistry of impact materials, and planetary evolution. Dr. Koeberl has played a leading role in numerous International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) projects, including major drilling efforts at the Bosumtwi, Chesapeake Bay, and Lake El’gygytgyn impact structures. Christian will also act as ECORD watchdog for this workshop.
